“Boy shoots friend after listening to Eminem” - This is now a common newspaper headline throughout the world, as more and more youths and children listen to explicit music. Music plays a substantial role in the socialization of children and adolescents. Popular music is present everywhere and is freely accessed through radio, various recordings, the Internet and new technologies, allowing adolescents to listen to it in different settings and situations, alone or shared with friend.

         More often than not, parents are ignorant of the lyrics to which their children are listening. This is the result of the constant downloading and changing of songs. Research on popular music has explored its effects on school work, social interactions, mood and affect and particularly behaviour. The effect that popular music has on children’s and adolescents’ behaviour and emotions is of paramount concern.

          Lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres. For example a song like ‘On My Level’ sung by Wiz Khalifa featuring Too Short says that it’s fine to drink and not care about anything. A teenager’s preference could be correlated or associated with certain behaviours. As with popular music, the perception and the effect of music video messages are important, because research has reported that exposure to violence, sexual messages, sexual stereotypes, and substance abuse -- alcohol, illegal drugs and the like - in music videos might produce significant changes in behaviours and attitudes of young viewers; caretakers and parents should be aware of this. Furthermore, with the evidence revealed in these studies, it is essential for us to take a stand regarding music lyrics. Parents should monitor the type of music their children are listening to and song lyrics as this knowledge can benefit them in the future.       Technology include the use of electronic devices used for many different things. We use different forms of technology such as: computers, ipods, cell phones, mp3 etc. These devices benefit us in a lot of different ways, such as us making us able to communicate with persons in different parts of the world through the use of cell phones and computers. We are also able to listen to music, watch news, and get entertainment through ipods, psp, and ipads. Children also use the internet to do research for projects, homework or just for their own benefits.

     There are also a lot of disadvantages to technology. Some of these are:

Distractions- children are being distracted by facebook, games, and porn.

Face book- this is a distraction because children spend more time on face book than they spend doing their homework.

Games- they are distractions because children get addicted to them and this may cause health problems like you may go partially blind and would need glasses.

Porn- it’s distractive because it causes your hormones to act up which causes you to want to have sex. This may cause you to go out and have sex at a very young age which may cause teenage pregnancy and a spread of HIV/AIDS and STDs.

     I think technology is good, it helps us to get work done faster and it is also bad because it causes a lot of addictions (to drugs and cites) and distractions. Some solutions to these problems are: limit the amount of time you spend on the computer and cellphone.

                                    Don’t get too addicted to online games and music.

Effects of the music industry on youths

Music is a very important part of the lives of most people in the world today. Some persons cannot go a day without some sort of music. It has become a very important aspect in the world and has taken a hold on the youths of the society. It has become a very big issue in schools, churches and other institutions.

  Back in the old days the music that was popular used to be conscious and understandable vibes, things that people can relate to and understand. Artistes such as ‘Bob Marley’ ‘Whitney Houston’ ‘Celine Dion’ and others produced nice, understandable and meaningful music.  The music in this generation can be good, but, the majority of music has negative effect on our youths.  Nowadays artistS such as ‘Lil Wayne’ ‘Vybz kartel’ ‘Popcaan’ ‘Eminem’ ‘Drake’ ‘Rhianna’ ‘Niki Minaj’ and not forgetting ‘Jay-Z’ and others, who the majority of young persons look up to and are attracted to, produce a whole bunch of lyrics that people cannot understand, things that don’t make any sense at all, and we seem to like that music because our friends like it and because it is the “new thing’ and everyone seems to love it. I strongly think that the music industry has a very negative effect on the youths today.

  I feel this way because I see it everyday. I see everyday young people are being transformed by the music they listen to. They are influenced by the song writers, these artists who produce these songs that are popular and have a very strong effect on young people who buy these songs and help these singers to make a lot of money. Although there is Christian music and other conscious music that some young people listen to which help to uplift them, and there are some persons who don’t really listen to music but do it when they are bored to keep them occupied, the music these days still have a very negative effect on us. For instance when some artist sing songs and say things such as “shoot him in his head”, “kill him and watch him bleed” and “I cant take it anymore, I cant take life I just want to die”, young people think in the way they think that the artist is thinking and they begin to relate it to what is going on in their lives. So example someone who might be going through a little problem would intake this and even have the urge to do something violent or something that may cause harm to them.

  Some songs produce bad lyrics towards women, they speak about women as if they are a bunch of useless people or some sort of toy and they can do anything to women as they want to. Even some female artists degrade themselves in that manner. When persons like “2-Pac”, “Biggie Small”, and “kartel” sing about “smoking my weed” and those sort of things influence the young men especially who look up to them that it is okay to do. These young men sit down and worship these artists and suddenly, unconsciously at first they start thinking about doing what the song says. They might end up actually smoking, or doing something else what the song says to do, therefore leading to them forgetting who they really are and doing what they listened in that song.

 Additionally some songs influence our young people into sexual activities. The artistes sing so sexually and raw that they make young people think and feel that what they are saying is okay. It then suddenly seems okay to a young man or woman to sing along to these songs and it even gets more okay to do what the song is saying. Therefore these behaviors lead to our young generation becoming degraded, young women can get pregnant and mess up their lives and education, STI’s could pass around like wildfire, it can even turn some persons crazy when they come to realization of how their lives have changed , it can also be the cause of some young people becoming juvenile delinquents.

  We have been looking at how music these days affect us; here are a few illustrations of how this happens:

When we were kids growing up now starting to know ourselves our parents dressed us in baggy clothing and anywhere we go what type of clothing did they men wear? Everyone knows the answer to that “The baggy pants”. And the women: “bell bottom pants”.

 Some years ago a trend came out and even some songs sang about favorite artistes they sang about the well known and popular “PENCIL FOOT”.

I find it a little funny that because and artists sang a song about a pants and then suddenly everyone starts wearing them. Another example from back in the day also; when we were kids we never ever wanted our parents to put a “SNAP BACK” on our head, no child or young person would want their friend to see the down the road in one of those hats. But Look at what is going on now Tyga and Popcaan these famous artist sang a song on that old time hat and now young people are paying up to $100 for one of those hats!. So we can clearly see the influence that these songs have on our young generation.

 

  To try and solve these problems here are some of my solutions; I strongly think that parents play a vital role in monitoring the type of music that their children listen to. They are the ones who should bring up their children in the right way and we all know that music is part of a child’s life when he/she is growing up.

 Also parents should not only monitor the music that their children listen to, but the behavior, we all know that music can change an individual so you as a parent should know how you trained up your child  to be and they way you want him/her to grow up. Music can change a child’s behavior and make them become completely different individuals. So it is the duty of the parent to make sure that the child’s behavior is stable. For example; take a parent who is a Christian, very strict and extremely religious, by the time they see that their child’s behavior has changed just a little they would take immediate actions to get their child on the right track. On the other hand take a parent who is not that involved in their child’s life they leave them to make their own mistakes and learn from it if they see a change in their child they might not have the urge to bother with the situation although it might be on their mind they would not seem to take action until it is very serious, to the extent that the child might do something crucial to him/her self. So basically what I am saying is that parents play a vital role in everything their children do , no matter if you are a single parent or a parent who doesn’t want to tell their child how to live their lives, so they let them make good or bad decisions, a parent who is strict and on guard. All parents have the duty to protect their child from harm and danger and from becoming the individual they didn’t train them to be.

 Another solution is that if you are a person who believes that listening to this song is totally wrong, and then you have control over yourself to not listen to that song. Some religious people don’t listen to music at all, period!! Some people who listen to music have the power and authority that if they think that a song is inappropriate they should not listen to it. There are some persons mainly adults who listen to the type of music that these artist produce so the artist themselves won’t stop making songs that they know would make money, however they do know that young people listen to their music so I think they should try and produce some music that is appropriate at times.

   In conclusion we have looked at the negative impact of the music industry on our youths today and a few examples. Now if those artists are the type of persons who this generation of young people look up to then for my opinion I would say that this generation of young people is getting worse and worse each day. These artists don’t have any respect for themselves or the persons who listen to their music. All they care about is making their money from us they don’t care what happens to the youths or the world. Let’s make a choice, let’s choose right from wrong.

 

To be or not to be

The act homosexuality has raised the discussion among our youths; is homosexuality wrong? What causes it? How can it be dealt with?

   Homosexuality, which is the romantic sexual attraction or behaviour between members of the same sex or gender, is wrong!

 I take you to the book of Romans chapter 1, verses 25and 26; yes quoted in scriptures evidentially that God made men for women and any one that goes the opposite he will give them over to a reprobate mind, to do those which are not convenient, for those who commit such things are worthy of death. Youths, the world is sweet for you today do you want to face that penalty? Yes God made Adam and Eve; it was never Adam and Steve.

   It is stated that persons that are homosexuals are born that way. Youths do not let Lady Gaga brainwash you with the thought that they were born that way. I strongly disagree because my research tells me it can be caused by emotional and physical problems. First of all let’s look at the first one

      One of the most reason today why youths especially men having sex with men is because of materialism. Their eyes ‘get long’ when there are stuff like blackberry, mp3, Clarks and all sort of stuff, you don’t get these and you’re a considered to be a “non human-being”. The boys can’t afford it but wants to keep up with the trend and they want to be the center of attention, so that others will ask them at school “ah wey yo get dah new clarks dey darddy” he wants money in the pocket to keep up with the “shotta” life, and tends to go all out to have it just for “popularity”.

Their mother or father doesn’t have in so instead he gives himself away to other guys.

  Music plays a vital part in youth of today that influences them to take part in homosexuality, Girls having favorite role models artist like Britney spears and Madonna kissing each other bringing them to be copycats whatever those artist do they do it also. Katy Perry Singing “I kissed a girl and I like it” clearly gives Girls the “OK to go and experiment, turns out it’s not only kissing but it’s what happens next.

Parental figure…a youth growing up without a father or any male parenting of any sort, as he grow up he never had that experience of fatherly love so he builds that desire to be loved by a man, and because of lack of the experience as a result he becomes a homosexual. This tells us it happens because of how he was brought up.

   Sexual abuse is another aspect  because that itself can mess up with a persons mind making he/she feels confused as to what gender they should pursue or is accustom too. A male/female relatives or even a friend introducing teenagers by taking advantage of them engaging them in sexual activities those teenagers now becomes victims because they were welcome by that feeling and goes publicly thinking its “OK” and take away the innocence of others of the same sex that method is called adapting and therefore it becomes a motto that is hard to restrain from.

   Youths who had experiences with the opposite sex because they are young come to the conclusion that, maybe this isn’t for them. The boys comes to despise women and vise-versa, then he/she comes into intimate contact with the same sex who has the same problem starts comforting each other, spending quality time both becomes attach and feel ‘happy’.

   Youths who are reading this or even those of you young people who are homosexuals, do you ever take the time to study how it can affect your lives, your future even your family? This act can cause depression, always have to be thinking “what do I do? No one is going to accept me for this. I will be the center of attention.” They get so depressed and confused that they become suicidal and may even take their own lives.

   Nobody likes the feeling of being rejected because of their status. Think about you being rejected from getting a job, the career you always wanted just because of this homosexuality. It becomes frustrating because you can’t be independent and things get rough.

   Your friends at school despise you. At church, the members wouldn’t want to sit down next to you because you’re considered “unclean”.

 Youths would you like to face these consequences? Would you like your friends to go through all this pain?

 

   My youths, there is not a single person in this world who was born a homosexual. Pray without ceasing for the Bibles says “With Him ALL things are possible.” Go to a counselor or a therapist where you are more comfortable expressing yourself, they would listen and understand and help carry you down the right path.

I have known of friends who were homosexual at the end of the prayer, counseling and support, they are now asking themselves “what was I thinking?”

The devil is a liar”.

Remember no one is born a homosexual. It is never too late so please take my advice.

Hello, I would like to ask a question posed especially to the youths of today that are about to read this important message being sent abroad. My question is, how would you feel if you saw two guys or two boys kissing in a corner right in front of your eyes or holding hands walking together in public?

         Definitely in your young youthful minds you’ll say that it is wrong, unpleasant, or the word gay comes to mind.

Well being aware of the truth that it is wrong and there is a word we use to describe this nature it is Homosexuality.

Homosexuality is described as being sexually attracted to people of the same sex meaning two men or boys or two females attracted to each other. I know you might think it is ok with two females and not males, but young girls and ladies let me tell you this; you are not escaping any of the risks that apply to you along with the consequences.

The HIV virus can still be caught even in this way and you are more likely to get infected to the other diseases such as herpes, syphilis and many other along the line but just to name a few.

Let’s go back to the beginning of time shall we. Answer this question, who did God make to watch over the Garden of Eden? Yes God made Adam and saw he was lonely and created a being from one of Adam’s ribs and brought forth a woman called Eve; so god made a woman for a man and we all know this is true right? Yes, yes it is so God did not make a man for a man and a woman for a woman and we all say amen.

Factors affecting and influencing our young people today are right before our eyes and two of them are technology and media. These can all be helpful if not abused and misused.  Out of a 100% there is always a high percentage chance of 85-90% of our young people will come across a pornography or sexual website or get a hold of these media product. The famously known celebrity figure singers such as Movado, Kartel and Popcaan have contributed to bringing back styles and fashions such as the Clarks, the pencil-foot pants and “the jamaicey”, but these are all popular through out the Caribbean especially the pencil foot pants which can be worn in the extreme. Young men I advise you in this. There is a saying that says the way you dress tells a lot about your character and who you are. If you dress in a tight pencil foot pants and a tight jersey like what some of you young men wear a lot sometimes and wearing it in the extreme and letting the pants being a bit too tight or close with hardly any room to move about freely it is not sending a good message to the public. There are people who would after immediately seeing you would suggest that you’re a homosexual or that you’re gay. I’m not saying that you should be judgmental at times towards the people you see dressing this way because you can never tell by looking. All of these factors and facts I mentioned would lead to consequences such as just by being a homosexual you would be neglected from the public finding it hard to ever fit in to such a life. This also affects job opportunities, your life and your situations to become a bit worse.

Some countries have accepted these terms, laws and regulations but the inequality is very far from others. It is even stated that homosexuals can get married because they allowed marriage between them. You may and might say that if these countries accepted it then it must be a good thing, right? Wrong, so another question to ask yourselves my youths is, if a country says that is OK to kill every new born and every child in a country or to eat food with poison does this means that it is OK? Of course not what is wrong my youthful people is wrong I’m not saying or promoting this message to discourage, frighten or make you feel uncomfortable but nothing more than to let you be aware of the facts and how we can deal with this obscenely thing affecting the world today.

If you’re a Christian the Bible says and does tell us factual truth about this and how wrong it is even God had destroyed people of such an act he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah of this same resentful act. We are were made in this word for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to live and shine bright for Jesus Christ our Lord God and savior and he wants us to live according to his words, the Bible and his commandments in order to be accepted in to his kingdom. Although there are youths and young people who may be reading this are living a homosexual life I urge you to be calm about it is still ok because there are solutions. Remember that God says to confess and offer up your sins to him and he will forgive you of them. Just because some people doesn’t believe in God doesn’t mean He isn’t there so just always have faith so prayer would be one of them. God doesn’t want anyone to face a problem or a change alone so ask God for guidance, strength and the will to overcome your problems he’s always there for you when you need him. There are also private and public counselors that can help you in this big change so never be afraid of change because change is good some times. There could be programs associated in helping you with this and where you’re more comfortable with someone your comfortable talking you  so my young people of tomorrow escape from the public discrimination, confusion, peer pressure, influenced from medias, sexual abuses and experimenting what you see on pornography sites and medias etc. I would honestly tell you the truth that thee are many ways and many reasons why people become homosexuals many, many reasons but the biggest thing is to be ready for a big change a change of heart ready for a new life  that you would be living abundantly. So I urge you not to be judgmental about the people you meet out there I will repeat again you can never tell by looking. The people you meet out there you don’t know how they got their possessions some just chose a homosexual life but don’t be afraid to be a helpful friend in mind and offer up your advice to let them know they can change so no one isn’t born a homosexual. God hate these abnormal people such as homosexuals so he would make someone in this image that he displeases to his eye sight. Remember be a good friend, don’t be afraid of change and live you life right.           Technology is a gadget or anything that is use to make life easier in modern days. It is has a great effect on young people today and can be dangerous sometimes. It may have effects on adults to.

          Some examples of technology are computers, games, vehicles, television, cell phones, internet and music players.

         Computers have a great effect on young people today. Most children use computers and the internet to do many things. Some use it for homework, for future jobs so they must learn how to use it for it is useful. As of today children at secondary schools do subject that deals with computers which is information technology.

          How ever there are bad effects of computers. When we around   computers for a very long time   especially in the night it may cause our eyes to strain which may cause eye problem. Our youth today tense to love the internet and join certain web pages like facebook and twitter etc. Which they join because their friends or other people are joining them. This may cause our youth today to get distracted from school and become addicted. The internet may also cause violence and crimes. Someone may post up a lie on the internet about you which is gossip. That person may get so angry willing to fight that’s where violence comes in. Also young people interesting in dating may meet someone on the internet who may have asked them to meet them some where at a certain time or place. They may have come but you did not expected to meet someone really older than you. They may kidnapped or rape then kill you that’s where crime comes in.

           There are all kind of games today for our youth. There are fashion games and brain teasing games. Fashion games may help us look forward for our future jobs like fashion designers, seamtress or tailors. Brain teasing games helps our youth  to work their brain, to see how smart you are and increasing their knowledge.

          Television is a good  device because it gives us news that is happening  around  the world; regionally and internationally. It can use to entertain us like comedy movies.

           How ever televisions can also strain the eyes if we are to close to it for long tome.

           Cell phones have a great effect in communicating. Communicating is very good for us to communicate with our love ones and friends faster than by letter writing and good also for jobs.

            How ever cell phones have bad effect I heard on the news that a lady almost died because of  “cell phones .” She was  walking with her husband and son when she received a text message. She began walking and texting  not noticing how close she was at the edge of a wall where water was below. It was very steep and the water was far down. As she took one step back she fell into the water. Her cell phone was destroyed and she almost died. Her son and husband jumped down to help her but the still needed help and was rescued by coast guards.

           Music players can be very useful for young people today. Some young people find music calms them down and entertains them as well.

           However music players may cause some young people to want it although their parents cannot afford it and some may involve themselves in homosexuality and prostitution. The purpose of the music players is to play music so certain young people today listen music with negative influence and may loose focus of their school work and become very disrespectful.

             We need technology but again we can live without it. We need it for money. More teachers are employed when they teach information technology.

         Companies that sell music players and cell phones make money. Cell phones are more reliable in terms of its accuracy when communicating rather than writing a letter for instance your relative may die and your brother and sister are over seas and did not know about the death. Using cell phones you can tell them within less than five minutes. We need transportation to reach our destinations whether its school.

           We can live without computers and the internet and use our resources at the library and even in books at home.

 Instead of playing games on a device we can play hand games and book games example puzzles which help to develop the brain and keep it active.

             In my opinion technology is definitely useful like cell phones vehicles and the internet but our use of it determines the outcome. The internet is not really necessary but school children today have assignments that they may need to research on the internet for. Children should however be supervised while using the internet to avoid the use of pornographic website.

        Cell phones should be used only for communicating and not in the streets unless it’s an emergency.
